The biotechnology company has hired researcher Francisco José Romero-Campero as an advisor on computational biology of systems, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence.
AlgaEnergy, a world leader in microalgae biotechnology, goes one step further in its commitment to research and innovation. To the more than 20 R&I projects that the company leads or in which it participates or has participated -with more than 150 scientific collaborators of the highest international level, projects that amount to more than 80 million Euros of investment-, the company is going to implement new developments in line with its 2020-2023 R&I Strategic Plan, approved by its Board of Directors. In this context, the company is committed to computational systems biology, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence as areas of great interest.
In order to strengthen its R&I capacity in these areas, AlgaEnergy has incorporated the researcher Francisco José Romero-Campero into its team, as an external advisor. With extensive experience in these fields of interest, Romero-Campero is a professor at the University of Seville in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and is part of the Research Group ‘Molecular Biology and Plant Biotechnology’. He also carries out his research work at the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF), a Joint Center of the National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Sevilla, focusing his research on the computational biology of molecular systems applied to construction and analysis of biological networks in photosynthetic organisms (plants and microalgae) from omics data.
Romero-Campero is the author of more than 40 publications in books and prestigious scientific journals, and has already been collaborating with AlgaEnergy in recent years in different projects, the last one as responsible for the so-called 'Transcriptomic analysis of the effects of the biostimulant AgriAlgae® on Arabidopsis thaliana and Solanum lycopersicum', developed in collaboration with the researcher Prof. Mercedes García González.
