The biotech company has been awarded and recognized as the "best business initiative oriented to the SDGs".
AlgaEnergy, world leader in microalgae biotechnology, adds another award to its long list of recognitions. On this occasion, the company has been awarded the Expansión Award for the Transformation towards a Sustainable Economy in the category of 'Sustainable Entrepreneur' for being the "best business initiative oriented to the SDGs".
These awards, currently on their 7th edition, are convened by EXPANSIÓN, a leading economic information newspaper, sponsored by Bankinter and KPMG and coordinated by IE University. They aim to recognize the innovation of organizations in their process of integrating into a more sustainable society. More than 150 companies and administrations have submitted their applications for this edition. The award ceremony took place on the 24th of March in Madrid and was attended by the Undersecretary for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Miguel González Suela, and the Minister for the Environment, Housing and Agriculture of the Community of Madrid, Paloma Martin.
The Expansión Awards for the Transformation towards a Sustainable Economy are based on three pillars: the objectives of the European Green Deal, the 2030 Agenda built on the SDGs and the need for companies and institutions to establish a Transition Plan towards that Sustainable Economy. The jury of these awards has highlighted that "the production and use of AlgaEnergy’s microalgae biostimulants contributes to mitigating climate change, since the cultivation of these microorganisms is the most efficient biological system for capturing CO2."
Augusto Rodríguez-Villa, President of AlgaEnergy and in charge of collecting the award from the Minister of the Environment, Housing and Agriculture of the Community of Madrid, Paloma Martín, pointed out that "this award is undoubtedly a magnificent recognition for our company and a pride for the company’s human team. This award is an acknowledgment of our firm commitment to sustainability and our contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Unsurprisingly, AlgaEnergy, through its activity, directly contributes to fulfilling no less than 11 of the 17 SDGs.”
Other winners in the VII Expansión Awards for the Transformation towards a Sustainable Economy have been ILUNION (best net-zero initiative aimed at promoting the circular economy), UNILEVER (best initiative aimed at promoting quality employment and inclusion), ACCIONA (best sustainability plan), the Mental Health Federation of Castilla y León (best innovation initiative applied to solving social problems), CORREOS (best initiative to promote social and environmental awareness) and ECODES, MSD and DKV for their Health project #PorElClima (best initiative aimed at decarbonization).
