Augusto Rodriguez-Villa, President of the biotech company, joins the Board of Directors of the Spanish Bioindustry Association (AseBio).

AlgaEnergy, world leader in microalgae biotechnology, has joined the Board of Directors of the Spanish Bioindustry Association (AseBio), an association that represents the interests of about 270 companies, associations, foundations, universities and research centers that carry out activities in the field of biotechnology in Spain. Augusto Rodríguez-Villa, President of AlgaEnergy, will represent the company on the Board of Directors of AseBio, which is currently chaired by Ana Polanco, Director of Market Access and Corporate Affairs of Merck Spain.

Regarding his incorporation to the Board of Directors, Rodríguez-Villa said that “it is an honor for us to assume this responsibility and, from that privileged position, we will have the opportunity to analyze and influence in the new challenges that the bio-companies are going to face, as a result of the unprecedented crisis caused by COVID-19, which places us in a new world order in which biotechnology will gain substantial relevance in the generation of a multitude of products and services, efficient and friendly to the environment”.

Lead the Industrial Transformation Commission

AlgaEnergy will also have the attractive task of leading the Industrial Transformation Commission. Carlos Rodríguez-Villa, General Manager of the company, will be the person in charge of assuming this new responsibility.

This working group, made up of more than 60 companies, associations and leading R&D centers and institutes, such as the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (NEIKER), seeks to influence in different areas in order to stimulate research and innovation, implement measures to boost Spanish biotech -so that Spanish biotechnology is internationally recognized, as it deserves-, and support the internationalization of national industrial service companies, facilitating their incorporation to the global market.

Carlos Rodríguez-Villa, for his part, points out that “for AlgaEnergy it is a great responsibility to lead this Commission at a time like the one we are currently experiencing, in which the role of biotechnology in responding to the new challenges that our society has to face is crucial”. "As we recently pointed out in our 'AlgaEnergy Manifesto: innovation against the pandemic', our commitment to innovation is a substantial part of our DNA, which is why the objectives of this Commission could not be more aligned with ours as a company", he adds.
