End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
Microalgae are a renewable and inexhaustible resource that also have the highest protein content on the planet. They do not compete with other food resources because they are not cultivated on agricultural land. They are also essential in farming of many fish and mollusk species in the aquaculture industry. Last but not least, the products marketed by AlgaEnergy combat world hunger by significantly increasing agricultural productivity worldwide.
Ensure a healthy life and promote well-being for all.
Microalgae have a high percentage of valuable 100-percent- natural compounds that have an immense application potential in human nutrition and pharmaceuticals. Also known as phytoplankton, they are the origin of omega-3 fatty acids and contain all kinds of natural vitamins and antioxidants that improve the life of those who consume them. AlgaEnergy leads and participates in R&D programs to develop microalgae-based mass-consumption foods that will contribute to alleviating the symptoms of metabolic syndromes, such as obesity, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes and hypertension.

Ensure the availability of water, and its sustainable management and purification, for all.
Wastewater treatment processes that use microalgae as fixers of heavy metals and other compounds are a very promising circular alternative-- economically and environmentally--compared to their aerobic and anaerobic counterparts . AlgaEnergy participates in bioremediation projects of effluents from other industries through the application of its microalgae technology.
Ensure access to affordable, safe, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Microalgae will be the precursors of fourth-generation clean and inexhaustible biofuels. They are an unlimited resource for the production of different types of biofuels such as biodiesel or bioethanol. We have already reached the technical viability of microalgae-derived biofuels. The next step is to reach economic viability--an objective that demands continuous R&D investments. AlgaEnergy is probably the only company in the world that has been fully committed through the whole value chain, from cutting-edge genetic engineering to the development of innovative extraction processes and, in fact, has already managed to produce sustainable and plentiful microalgae-derived biofuels.
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent jobs for all.
According to a study by the European Commission, blue biotechnology is one of the sectors in which more added value is generated per job created, facilitating the generation of quality jobs. AlgaEnergy is committed to equality, inclusiveness, quality, stability and safety in the workplace. Our employee team is our main asset.
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and encourage innovation.
Microalgae´s immense potential application in various industries, from the production of biomaterials to their integration into sustainable architectures, remains to be discovered. In this context, a commitment to innovation is essential to continue developing efficient high-value solutions based on microalgae. AlgaEnergy has a network of more than 130 consortiums worldwide with which it collaborates on innovative projects to develop sustainable solutions in different industries.

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Microalgae have great potential to contribute to the necessary transition to a circular economy, from wastewater treatment to exploitation of industrial CO2 emissions. AlgaEnergy is committed to making our planet a space for coexistence and more sustainable progress thanks to the potential of microalgae.
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
Microalgae are an inexhaustible resource that does not compete with other raw materials. They are also renewable. By using CO2 and sunlight, they generate a high-quality biomass that can be used in many sectors. Moreover, the technology and production processes developed by AlgaEnergy--the most advanced in the world--take advantage of the large amount of CO2 emitted by other industries as the main nutrient of microalgae in a circular economic model. Finally, all AlgaEnergy products in different sectors promote sustainable production.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its effects.
Microalgae are the most efficient CO2 biofixation system on the planet. Through photosynthesis, they capture up to 2 kg of this greenhouse gas for every kg of biomass produced. In fact, microalgae--which live in all aquatic ecosystems--are the largest producers of oxygen on the planet. They appeared almost three billion years ago and changed the atmosphere by making it habitable for humans. According to data from NASA, they directly produce more than 50 percent of the planet's oxygen. However, as precursors of all plant life, they are also indirectly responsible for the remainder of the oxygen that exists worldwide. The technology developed by AlgaEnergy uses greenhouse gas emissions from other industries to grow microalgae in a circular business model that is a first at global level.
Conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Microalgae, also known as phytoplankton, are the basis of the aquatic environment’s food chain. All marine life depends on their existence. In addition, they are essential for increased production in the aquaculture industry. This is the only solution to stop the exploitation of extractive fishing, which already threatens the survival of many fish species.
Protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and stop the loss of biological diversity.
Unlike other human activities causing deforestation and desertification, cultivation of microalgae does not require a large area of fertile land. Their cultivation does not use natural resources that alter ecosystems and negatively impact the environment. Production takes place in a totally controlled environment. Likewise, microalgae were the first colonizers of deserts and the precursors of all plant life on the planet. AlgaEnergy is the first company to work at global level on microalgae's potential to help recover soil quality and productivity.
